Welcome to the Detroit Parish Council
Where churches come together to strengthen one another by identifying and encouraging
programming and resources so that the greater Church is empowered to love and work in community.

Our Story
In 2018, Wayne Goeman of First Pres Troy approached Pastor Nate Phillips of Kirk in the Hills after reading his book, Do Something Else: The Road Ahead for the Mainline Church, and wanted to know if Pastor Nate was serious about what he wrote. After a series of conversations between the churches and hours of discernment, the Parish Council was created. First Presbyterian Church Troy and Kirk in the Hills decided to band together for their mutual strength and enrichment. 2019 saw the creation of the Parish Council Summitt and two more churches joined the Detroit Parish Council: Northminster Church of Troy and Starr Presbyterian in Royal Oak. As a church collective, we have joined forces in mission work and share in each other's church programming.

Past Projects and Events

In the spring of 2020, in the midst of shutdowns and learning to social distance, the Parish Council considered who was forgotten about when people wanted to help those who were struggling because of the pandemic. We landed on the foster care kids and set out to collect 25 Foster Care Care Kits.
In the end, we were able to collect 35 duffel bags filled with daily essentials.
